Case Files
Houston, TX - July 2009
In July of 2009, P.R.I.
Texas was contacted by employees of a long-time Houston business that
were experiencing what they perceived as paranormal activity at their
workplace.
Location: The subject location presented as a warehouse office complex
built in 1936, and occupied by the same business from it’s construction
to the present. The subject location is located in the second ward of SE
Houston, and is structurally sound but is in a somewhat deteriorated
state.
Claims: Multiple individuals have reported a variety of unexplained
phenomena over a sustained period of time. These phenomena included
footsteps, voices, objects moving, and office equipment operating on
it’s own. Many of these phenomena have been witnessed by multiple
individuals at the same time, or on separate occasions. The witnesses
interviewed appeared to be adults of a sound mental and emotional state,
and entirely credible in their testimony.
Investigation: The Paranormal Research Institute of Texas conducted an
investigation of the subject site on the evening of Saturday, July 18,
2009 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The weather was stormy, and a severe
thunderstorm was on-going from approximately 6:30 PM until approximately
10:00 PM.
The team consisted of P.R.I.’s Director, Lead Investigator, and an
Investigator Trainee. The equipment consisted of portable Gauss meters (EMF),
a Sony mini-cam with IR illuminator, a stationary motion-activated
digital movie camera with IR illumination, motion detectors, digital
thermal devices to measure ambient and point of contact temperatures,
and digital voice recorders.
Conclusion: During the investigation, there were no unexplained
phenomena experienced by anyone present. A thorough review of all audio
and video evidence collected during the investigation was negative. On
this basis, it is my conclusion that no evidence exists to support the
claims of paranormal activity, or that the site is haunted.
However, it is also my opinion that the testimony collected was sincere,
and that the individuals interviewed were entirely credible. The
experiences reported by these individuals were of a nature that could
not be explained by misperceptions of natural events.
The business that had occupied the building for 73 years had already
vacated the location. This could have very well terminated any activity
that may have been occurring. One of the individuals interviewed stated
that the activity seemed to have increased as the activity associated
with the company’s relocation began to increase. This is consistent with
historical data associated with confirmed haunted locations.
Houston, TX - January
2009
P.R.I.T. was contacted in January of 2009 by the parents of a five year
old female. The child has had disturbed sleep since she was two years
old. She only experiences these problems when she is at home, and sleeps
well away from home. The father has heard voices on the monitor at
night. The mother has heard whispers in her ear at night. The child
reported someone behind her door at night crying. At the same time the
child was telling her parents about this, the mother smelled a strong
scent of lavender.
The child has been examined by a doctor who has diagnosed the problem as
night terrors, but this diagnosis does not account for the lack of
disturbance when the child sleeps outside of the home. She has been seen
by a clinical psychologist, and is reported to be healthy, happy, and
well socialized.
STATUS: This case is on-going and the circumstances are under
review.
Rockport, TX
P.R.I.
Texas was contacted in October of 2008 by the Aransas County Historical
Society and asked to assist with a program that they were developing
that involved investigating an alleged haunted house and presenting the
results at their spring meeting. The subject location is the Angel Rose
Bed & Breakfast in Rockport , TX . The Angel Rose was mentioned in the
book Ghosts Along Texas Coast by Docia Williams as having a history of
paranormal activity.
Status: An “elite” team of ACHS members were selected to conduct
their own paranormal investigation of the location. A training program
has been developed by P.R.I. Texas, and will be conducted for the team
members on February 21st of 2009. That evening, the team will conduct
their investigation of the Angel Rose under the supervision of P.R.I.
Texas personnel. The event’s audio, video, photographic, and atmospheric
data will be analyzed and presented to the Historical Society at their
March meeting. Visit the
Angel Rose B & B website for
information on the history of this house.
Conclusion: The overnight
investigation of the Angel Rose Bed and Breakfast yielded unprecedented
evidence of high levels of paranormal disturbance. This evidence was
documented on video over a 2 1/2 hour period on the night of February
21st through the early morning hours of February 22nd.
On the basis of this evidence, P.R.I. Texas has placed the Angel Rose on
its list of documented haunted locations.
The Menger Hotel, San Antonio, TX
- May 2007
In May of 2007, P.R.I. Texas conducted a 3 day investigation of the
famous Menger Hotel. The hotel was built in 1859 and is reputed to be
the home of 32 separate spirits. The first night was spent with the
Director of Public Relations and all-around good guy Ernesto Malacara,
who gave us an extensive tour and interview. We were provided access to
the Richard King Room where readings and photographs were taken. P.R.I.
investigators spent two nights covering the halls and lobby of the
hotel. The third night, an interview with a night cook who experienced
visits by the spirit of a small girl, almost on a nightly basis, was
scheduled for 11:30 PM. The interview had to be cancelled due to a
sudden illness experienced by both investigators.
Results: Our photographs, audio, and video revealed nothing.
However, the P.R.I. director was awakened at approximately 2:45 AM on
the second night to extremely loud noises coming from the 5th floor room
above him. The sound seemed to be created by metal furniture being
dragged across a concrete floor.
The disturbance continued for about 30
minutes. The director went up to the room and knocked on the door and
the sound ceased with no one answering the door. Several minutes later
the disturbance resumed. The front desk was contacted, but the hotel
employee said that there were no guests on the 5th floor. P.R.I.
personnel spoke with Mr. Malacara the next morning, and he said that
this disturbance on the 5th floor was a common occurrence. We also
confirmed that other 4th floor guests had phoned in complaints.
Status: Despite this strange personal experience, there is no
documented evidence to suggest that the occurrence was of a paranormal
nature. All photographic, video, and audio data collected over the three
nights were negative. Based on our findings, it has to be concluded that
there is no evidence supporting the claims that The Menger Hotel is
haunted. However, P.R.I. Texas will conduct another investigation in the
future focusing on the Richard King Room.
